 Mangosteen fruit (Garcinia mangostana)

An evergreen tree native to Southeast Asia that has leathery leaves and large edible fruit. Latin name: Garcinia mangostana  2. The fruit with a hard, reddish-brown rind and sweet, juicy pulp produced by the mangosteen tree. Also known as the “Queen of Fruits.”   

The whole mangosteen fruit, nature's most abundant source, contains 39 different xanthones (as found in XanGo Juice).

Xanthones

C13H8O2 - a unique class of biologically active compounds possessing numerous bioactive capabilities, such as antioxidant properties. They are a unique class of phytonutrients.  Xanthones—found in the whole mangosteen fruit—may help maintain intestinal health, strengthen the immune system, neutralize free radicals, help support cartilage and joint function and promote a healthy seasonal respiratory system.

Phytonutrients

Any of various bioactive chemical compounds found in plants, such as antioxidants, considered to be beneficial to human health. Also referred to as a phytochemical.

Pericarp/Rind

The walls of a ripened fruit, sometimes consisting of three layers, the epicarp, mesocarp and endocarp.  Also referred to as the rind.

Antioxidant

Any substance that inhibits the destructive effects of oxidation. Antioxidants deactivate free radicals before they have a chance to harm your body.

Omega Medical Consortium (OMC)

The Omega Medical Consortium is a multidisciplinary association of various professionals who have joined forces in an effort to combat the spread of HIV/AIDS through the use of immune system support. A fruit called Mangosteen (scientific name is Garcinia Mangostana), which is generally found in Southeast Asia, possesses over forty compounds called xanthones, which exhibit strong anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and other properties, which may be useful as a complement to standard therapy approaches for this disease and against the many opportunistic diseases that afflict AIDS sufferers. Although the mangosteen has been used to treat many kinds of diseases for centuries in folk medicine, the potential health benefit features have largely focused on in vitro ("test tube") studies or numerous anecdotal (personal experience) case reports.

In order to evaluate the many possible beneficial properties of the mangosteen fruit, numerous professionals from various medical fields, business and non-profit executives, and private individuals are joining forces. They are working together to raise money for both donating the mangosteen whole-fruit puree product to people who need it, and study and understand the effects that xanthones have on HIV/AIDS.

People from any background who would like to either donate money or assist us in fund-raising are associating with the Omega Medical Consortium (OMC) in order to improve the quality of life of those individuals and families worldwide who are facing the debilitating and destructive effects of this disease. Doctors and patients willing to be involved in the studies and tests are gathering. Consultants and non-profit directors are also getting involved. Private citizens are beginning to see that this burden on families can be made lighter when we all share. When any ONE person donates, it provides help FOR ALL of us. AND when ALL of us finally reach out a helping hand, the benefits FOR the ONE family we have, "the family of man", will be tremendous.
